    Tikka vs R700

Granted, many here spend more time hunting than myself...I only average 2 shots/year hunting with a rifle without hearing protection. I guess I'm lucky, but I'm 60 and hear just fine. Certainly Adrenaline provides no hearing or recoil protection, but for those 2 shots per year on a deer or elk...

    Tikka vs R700

Back to the muzzle-brake issue...Only once have I taken an animal with a muzzle-brake(300wm) and I had Tinnitus for the next 4 months. I've since been very comfortable with the blast and recoil while hunting (the adrenaline helps a ton) without the brake. I own and recommend several Muscle...

    Building a LR target rifle

Mostly it depends on how you define Long Range. I've got I 260 that is a joy to shoot and is accurate out to 1400 yards. The 260 is a great choice if you plan on reloading. If you are planning on going out to a mile you might want to consider at 300wm.

    Nodes, Antinodes and Standing waves?

Yup, it's all about consistency! If you have a light weight hunting rifle that requires your left hand to hold the forestock to minimize muzzle jump, then use your left hand to hold the forestock when shooting off the bench, prone and standing (luckily, we all pretty much do that standing...

    Nodes, Antinodes and Standing waves?

The forces that the shooter transfers to the stock while the rifle is recoiling is NOT in reaction to the recoil. They are forces that existed prior to the shoot being taken. If you are shooting prone with your cheek pushing with 1lb of force against the side of the stock, you can manipulate...

    Nodes, Antinodes and Standing waves?

I'd just like to clarify a couple of things: "The bullet has long left the barrel before the rifle begins to recoil...Which is before the shooter even feels any recoil." Um no. The rifle begins to recoil with an equal but opposite force the instant the bullet moves forward in the case neck...

    Nodes, Antinodes and Standing waves?

Go with whatever works for you...but, both my competition rifles wear Harris Bipods, with taller Harris Bipod backups.

    Nodes, Antinodes and Standing waves?

Nodes, Antinodes and Standing waves are unchanged...so there is no need to further wear out your barrel in developing a new load. However, your cheek pressure, shoulder pressure, body alignment, grip, eye relief, trigger engagement, and bipod loading, may have all changed causing the rifle to...

    Ladder test new bullet

You clearly have a "shooter" there in your rifle, but like a lot of us you probably want to take it to the next level. The Ladder Test finds that sweet load that for a 100 reasons you have a round that is a bit hotter than the rest (due to extra powder, increased neck tension, lighter bullet...

    Ladder test new bullet

I'd highly recommend re-running the ladder test at 600 yards if you have that range available. With 8 shots, each 0.5 grains different, you should see 2 or 3 distinct nodes where the velocity deltas become significant enough that you get some separation in your groups. The problem with...

Is 30 inch barrel in a 6.5 Creedmore a mistake?

My concern would be trading accuracy for velociy. I would think the increased magnitude of the harmonic ring with the longer barrel wouldn't be worth the extra velocity. Sure some bench cannons get away with 30" barrels, but they have massive diameters to keep the ring magnitude within reason.

G7 vs. 1600B vs. Swaro EL...

Funny, looking at the pictures of the Love's truck stop brings back memories of my trip to Cabelas in Sydney several years ago when I was standing there at their front door comparing the Leica 1600 vs Bushnell. The 1600 won easily!!! So I placed it at Customer Service desk and walked into the...

    Rem 700 30-06/300wm bolt swap

My elk rifle is a Rem 700 in 30-06 with a stout #4 contour barrel. I have a spare Rem 700 Sendero 300wm action from my target rifle in my safe. The 300wm action has seen over 10000 rounds and is not as tight as the hunting rifle action. Both actions were purchased in the mid 1990s and either...

    Bullet Attitude at Impact

Back to the original question...There IS a very small force due to the high spin rate of the bullet that attempts to gyroscopically stabilize the bullet in it's current orientation. As the bullet follows the downward curved trajectory, this gyroscopic force wants to keep the nose of the bullet...

Bad horizontal stringing all of a sudden.

From your photo you have a very nice group vertically, and bedding, torquing, reloading, wear, problems would appear in both vertical and horizontal dimension...maybe one more than the other, but not 100% in one and 0% in the other. If possible, try another scope and see if your problem goes...
