One of my old hunting buddies called yesterday, He's 93 has one arm and told me he has gotten good enough that he can take 4 small steps with his walker. He called to make sure I got him put in the elk draw, He's ready to go. He has to be carried into a vehicle and can't lift a rifle. The last...
After the second time of breaking my back and having titanium rods holding 5 vertebrae together...If I can't get a vehicle within winching distance it walks. The last one I took out of a cornfield a short 1/4 mile and that sucked but it weighed 800+ pounds. Carrying head and antlers over your...
26 Nosler, my Buddy basically brought one over with dies, ammo, and a box of case for about half what a bare rifle cost. It likes really slow ball powder and gets really dirty really fast. The ballistics don't justify the downsides. I'm currently running a 127 LRX@3520 or so. I'll probably deer...
I loaded up some 140g Accubonds in my 270WSM several years ago, they shot great. The shot so great I put three of them into a buck at about 80 yards and they made a group you could cover with a quarter, and the exit group you could cover with a 50 cent piece. No expansion. Haven't used them...
Of the powders not already talked about you also can use 4198 and varget. I just bought some 8208xbr the other day, about fell over when I saw it on the shelf. I thought I would never see any for sale in a gun store again.
I'm sitting on a PILE of 270 bullets and am intrigued by the 277 Fury.
Not so much the 80,000psi capability but a CHEAP practice/deer/varmint/truck gun that doesn't use 70g of powder..
I have a number of 270 caliber rifles but nothing in that category.
Has anyone heard of a factory Howa...
Factory rifle,Nosler 48. It isn't the rifle, as long as I use ball powder it is fine, stick powder tends to powder bridge. It seems to like WC870 which I have a LOT of. I think the 27 Nos is a better cartridge. I have a 270-300WM which is a great cartridge and easily outperforms the 26 Nosler...
I started headspacing off the shoulder on belted magnums due to case stretching, The die I was using at the time pushed the shoulder back .020"(way too much), I usually push it back about .003" now. In between that and using a Innovative body die case life and accuracy improved and no bolt...
I'd not recommend a 6.5 PRC for 4-500y on ELK(we have over #1000 elk here), I have a 26 Nosler, and 6.5-284(virtually the same as a 6.5 PRC). I've used a 270 WSM on a few ELK, it worked fine. The 7RM(I have 2) is similar in performance but has the advantage with bullets above 160g(my 270wsm...
I've used a fair number of them, bullet performance was very good. Proghorns to elk many drt or close by. Leaves a nice blood trail when they don't go down immediately.
