I feel the .277 140 AB's were the weakest of the lot. They didn't seem nearly so tough as the 7mm 160's or the 30 cal. 180's. Doesn't surprise me the ABLR looks to follow suit.
Only maybe 1/16" pocket below the poly on the 7mm 150 pictured.
Bart,
In the intrest of not wasting any more of my time on this I will forfeit this one to you. I think it is safe to say that this thread has wandered out of the relm of usefull information. Thanks for your participation.
Bart, I cant help but think you are both over complicating and over simplifying terms and descriptions as you see fit to try an prove what ever it is you are trying to prove.
I also dont think ALL rifle scopes have adjustable eyepieces, atleast not user adjustable. I have a few that do not.
I...
Maybe I am way off base but I think the confusion may be with how different scope models work.
Burris scopes (the ones I have seen) have the abillity to Focus just the reticle by turning the eyepiece cushion. This adjustment is seperate from the magnafication adjustment and Paralax(objective)...
If it helps anybody I'm pretty sure my gunsmith paints the inside of the scope rings with clear nail polish(or some other clear glue) then mounts the scopes and wipes off the excess.
Ive had a couple different scopes on my 300 win and they never move.
He laps and trues all my rings. I'm not...
Well there seems to be little trafic on this part of the board and a few people seem interested so I plan to keep this post going. I will try and do it like a journal keeping it updated with my progress. Maybe it will be helpfull to someone else.
My rifle is at the gunsmiths now. He is mounting...
Well I am still working on mounting the rifle in the stock and mounting the scope. I have since bought a RCBS Rock chucker supreme Master kit and plan on rolling my own.
When I was testing I shot 3, 5, and 10 shot groups. It didnt matter any, they still were 1.5 inches. I think I shot around 45...
I found the RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme (MASTER??) kit for $188. I plan to get that and then pick out my dies. I will have to look farther at abinok's suggestions and figure this all out.
I'm looking to get into hand loading my own and am wondering about die setup. My thought is that with a single stage press you would have to readjust the die position each time you switch operations. Is this a simple operation and easily repeatable? Would it be worth it to get a turret press to...
Update
I tested the stock Ruger with several types of factory ammo:
Winchester supreme 180 Nosler Accubond
Winchester supreme 180 Nosler Partition
Winchester Plain 180
Remington 180 core Lokt
These are just what I had on hand except the accubonds.
They all performed about the same. The...
Hired Gun,
I like your setup. Looks like it would be in my price range and doable.
A few questions:
What model is the stock? It looks to have a larger fore end.
Was the stock a drop in for your heavy barrel?
I'm not familiar with the 25-06IA. In the pics it looks like a necked down Weatherby...

People may be a little surprised at your statement "never tried for anythng better" being as most of us are constantly trying for something better. A custom gun does not replace effort to acheive accuracy. This is sometimes known as practice.

I didnt mean to imply that...

If you shoot factory ammo, "get serious" and many different brands for accuracy.

I dont entirely understand this sentance. Are you trying to say I must reload to get good accuracy, or just saying to try many different factory loads?
Oops! Forgot some important info. The rifle is chambered for 300 win Mag.
Yes I agree it is likely this rifle will perform to my current standards. Im just thinking that this rifle is limited in potential and aftermarket support. Of course the Weatherby Vanguard is probably in much the same...
I'm just getting into coyote, long range hunting. My objective is to have 1 rifle good for elk, deer, and coyote out to 600 yards or so.
Im thinking along the lines of a 8 - 10 lb rifle w/optics that shoots a 30 cal. (300 wsm, wm) bullet at 1 MOA or less.
I curently own a Ruger M77 MKII bone...
