7mm STW Brotherhood - For those who shoot the 7mm Shooting Times Westerner

Lefty you clearly know more than me on this subject. What I found interesting was what the guy told me about the change in the quantity they are now allowing on a ship.
That's probably just more Big Brother crap, trying to keep us from rollin our own....

They got their ammo, cornered the market, and now putting strains on things when they're trying to go back to normal.....Seems more than strange and fishy to me...

no problem bud.
Half of what I hear at the lgs has to go in one ear and out the other. He is correct that some of what was at one time made here isn't anymore though. The imr series were made by dupont and are now canadian(unless that's changed again) imports. Many of the hodgdon stick powders were mil surp. stuff that was originally produced in the states; adi in kangaroo land makes the stick hodgdon now.

One of the biggest reasons I always keep some stuff on hand to roll my own with at all times. I buy when others aren't caring to buy as I get a better deal. It looks like the deal fairy has lost her mo-jo lately though. Since billy bob junior has been in there have been virtually no deals. It gets expensive letting the rifles go bang when the replacement cost has tripled.

I think that is part of his strategy.

I agree...He wants to not only make the stuff harder to come by, but wants to tax the bejesus out of what we do get. I pray we get a conservative gun-nut in office next go around.....We need some wins for the gun community to shut up all these liberal anti-gun *******.

In order for that to happen we all need to convert some votes to our side or at least get some like-thinking folks to get out & vote instead of sitting home complaining. I find the easiest, funnest & best thing is to get as many non-shooters as I can out to the range for some fun. This has led to many converts. Every single one that I have taken shooting has changed their views in a lot of ways. Sorry for the politics guys, but we ALL need to do what we can or we will soon lose the sports we love.

Hey guys, I'm contemplating a build. It'll be my first! Of course it'll be a Stw. I know some of you build your own and im looking for advice. So far Krieger is highest as far as a barrel goes. And it'll be on a Remington action. I'm considering a laminated Boyd s thumbhole stock. I would appreciate all advice you have.

Thanks Butterbean, I'm looking to basically have a barrel contour of my Sendero. It's amazing at all of the options and details. Good Lord! I just want a custom rifle. Lol

80 GR - If you want a custom or semi-custom rifle quick, you might want to check out RedHawk Rifles. The RedHawk rifle I have has a Douglas premium air-guaged barrel and I am very happy with it. I understand that Douglas is one of the more affordable ones.

80 grains, another option that you may want to consider is the Bobby Hart LRT laminated, that can be bought at Stockys. The price is very reasonable, and it is a Quality product. I bought one last spring, when I built a custom rifle, in STW also. It feels great, " in hand" , and your eyes are perfectly aligned with the scope. It is a laminated version of a A5 . The inletting is well done, and has pillars already installed. The color I chose was Tawny Brown. I am tickled with mine, and recommend at least a " look , see" before you make up your mind.
As far as your barrel goes, there ain't nothing wrong with the Kreiger. But remember, the barrel is ONLY as good as the smith who installs it!!!! That being said, do your homework, and research your intended smith. Find out what is he going to use for reamer, and how many cuts has it done already. My 280 was cut with a brand new PTG reamer, minimum specs on the headspace, and when I resize my brass, it is effortless. The finish inside the chamber bore is like a mirror. Give Ben a shout, and I think he will set you up just fine. Take care and enjoy the ride. It's a lot of fun, and when you get it home, there's no feeling quite like it, except when you bring home your first born!:)

7stw. That's exactly the reason i posted about a build...the wealth of info from fellas who know their stuff. I am grateful for everyone's kindness!

I would've never thought about the reamer. This tells me to slow down and research everything involved. I feel like i need a blame grocery list. Lol
