MT Elk Regulations Should Change!

believe everyone's tax dollars purchased and maintained federal property.
Make it about land issue and no managing MONTANA'S GAME, it is Montana's by the way not the federal govt wether on fed land, private or state so once again this is not a land issue.
Why do " you" NR always turn it into a money or land issue?
My biologist nephew who is a NR hunter always says montana is Crazy the way they manage our game, WHY because he looks at it as strictly a management issue because that's his job.

Do not lose sight of the funding from Pitman-Robertson. Predicated on license sales.
Which is a drop in the buck, 20% of that money also has to go to park management which means for Montana game wardens 20% of there time has to be spent on parks because our parks are included in the dept.
Don't believe it call F@G and ask.

Why do " you" NR always turn it into a money or land issue?
Your gripe is with the Montana F&G. If they want to hand out tags good for a 2 month season why is it a NR fault for taking advantage?
They are turning it into a money issue not I.
They DEFINITELY should be more concerned with managing the game animals but they are more concerned about NR money so you are blaming NR?

Yep just F it, take advantage.
Not my state I dont give a F$$$
I guess I should have just took " advantage " of wyoming not closing region g and just shot A Buck instead of eating my NR tag.

Then why bring it up?
Your right my gripe is with Montana F@G.
Theres alot of what muddyboots says i agree with, anytime you have money drive something in govt its not good our Fed. Govt is a prime example but thats another issue
I brought it up because I feel that that's the issue. $$$ is driving their decisions not management. I agree it's never good!

Like I always say you can be part of the solution or problem, I tried to be part of the solution no matter what state I hunt.
I'm not entitled to anything just because I have a tag in my pocket. Ive shot all the elk and deer I " need" to.
Even my 19 year old grandson won't shoot a " dink" just to shoot one because he understands you can't shoot the big ones skinning the little ones.
Never could understand why somebody shoots a little 2 point or spike whe you can take a WT doe. As hunters our mentality needs to change or theres not gonna be opportunity for anybody.

I think if we cut the NR opportunity maybe 65-80% of what it is now, raise the cost to make up the dollar shortfall and require all NRs hunting big game to be with an outfitter- everyone wins. I don't really care if it's inaccessible to average Joe hunter who wants to drive across the country and do a DIY elk hunt. That guy is more of the problem and less of the benefit.
Sorry, but there is a whole lot wrong with this entire post.

NonResidents literally keep some small town businesses in business yet you want to cut them out except for the guy who flys into Montana in his private jet and hunts land that you would never be able to anyway?

That is messed up beyond words.

Montanas small town economy has always very much relied on the revenue that out of state hunters bring in, yet because you feel there are too many flies in your honey hole, the government should step in to help YOU while killing our small businesses???

Besides that, wolves and the people who support them are a much greater threat to our tradition than any hunter could ever be. They are already pushing the narrative that 'more wolves' brings in 'more people' who bring in 'more money' but apparently you want to help the wrong side?

We have a very long season, yet some areas still can't get their population numbers down. If your hunting area is short on elk, maybe look at trying these other areas, just be prepared to knock on a lot of doors.
Another suggestion is to take the opener off. Everyone knows how crowded the woods are the first week or two of the season but since we have such a long season, maybe use those weekends to get to the range when it, too, is empty?

I totally get the frustration with crowds but to cut out the bread and butter of our local economies is absolutely NOT the answer.

I'm at a point where I won't shoot "a dink" and I commend your grandson for having restraint but I won't cut another hunter down if he's happy shooting a dink if it's taken legally. Everyone's idea of a trophy is different and usually hunters get pickier as they get more experience but some never do. It should be more about the experience of the hunt and a trophy animal is the icing on the cake.

Yep its about the money, how many signs you see anymore hanging on business welcoming hunters like there used to be 25-30 years ago? I'll answer that HARDLY NONE!! I was just in Roy, Hilger and Winifred hunting 417 not 1 sign welcoming hunters that is about as rural as it gets.

From a management stand point are you better off having 2-3 years old deer and elk breeding or 5-6?

Her go's
Been putting in for Antelope tags NR the past 2 years. My best friend lives in Wolf Creek and said come on out! It's been tough, retired and this might be my last time big game hunting.
I've killed all my Elk in Colorado with muzzle loader.
I get a cow tag NR every 2 years.
