Seems fairly obvious that if elk (or any species for that matter) had no predator animal or human then the population would continue to expand until the habitat could not sustain it. So population is controlled by either starvation or predation. To keep the population in check a certain number are removed each year. If to many are removed then the population declines if this continues long enough then it finally disappears. With the reintroduction of wolves, humans and wolves must share in removing the correct number each year, so for every elk a wolf kills humans have to give up one of their intended kills so that the number removed remains constant.
So I hope wolves never come to Colorado because I don't like sharing.
They are already there. Utah has them too.

300....."I live in a neighborhood and my wife is anti gun / anti hunting so I had my .17 HMR ready but started screaming at me. It was a nasty yote. Big and managy."

Gotta explain to her that if she has cats or other dogs...those are food for rhe coyote....if she doesn't care....lock the pets outside.......be a responsible pet owner....kill the yote.....

thank god we aren't in wolf country! I have a beagle and she has 3 x 130lb beasts that we treat like children. I'll approach it from that angle or take a shot when she's not home.

Yeah - fish and game in both states claims the same things. I've got them on my game cam in the Uintas and saw one while I was sneaking around on the archery elk hunt. I am a big coyote hunter and know the difference.

As long as you fish & game dept denies there are wolves in your area...kill them as coyote......dont let them get settled...

Well I hate to break it to you guys but your "ill-informed, mis-informed and gullible!!!" Those are just sheep in wolf's clothing they'd never harm a flea according to mtmuley and we all know that he knows more than all of us put together. How dare you say such things???

Your statement doesn't hold water. I know quite a few people who live here who don't give a rats behind about elk, deer, or even cattle- they like wolves. The fact that they are carnivores and sometimes enjoy a steak dinner doesn't seem to connect with those folks.
My point was that most people who live and HUNT here in MT and WY, ID etc. are aware of the impact that wolves have on the ungulate population, and know the population is far from "very few".

And that ^^^ above is why I stopped buying a Deer and Elk tag..... Now I only buy a Wolf tag and a general hunting permit. Last Elk I took was in 2014 a canyon away from where I live. I once had 30-50 Elk on my land every night and a dozen Whitetail deer, that got reduced to only seeing 5-6 or once a while back about 13-15 each month, I saw 1 cow a few nights ago. Something had to give, and for me personally I chose to put my money where my mouth was, no funds to the State for Elk hunting and maybe one more Elk a year I let live........

A Wolf can hunt 24/7, after the Sun goes down or comes up, doesn't need to follow the Rules or laws of fair chase, can kill or wound anything it can come in contact with, even another DOG. Coyotes certainly do, and a Wolf/Coyote hybrid is more like a Coyote then a Wolf IMO. Which means rural life across the State lines and into Washington more game animals/ or household pets will die, and No Laws to stop them....... Want to know what else, they are not considered a Wolf or a Coyote..... Which means they will fall between the cracks if left unchecked, and left to their own avail just like the Wolves have here in Idaho.

I have to say that this forum, and the members here with the exception of a few, are the most ill informed, misinformed and gullible audience I have ever seen concerning the wolf issue. Most of you guys don't live in wolf country. I get that. You will never see one, much less kill one. The days of SSS never happened. If it would have worked, Montana would be wolf free. Get a clue. Be a cheerleader if you want I guess. If any of you badasses want to hunt wolves in Montana, send me a pm. We have them here where I live. I'll help you out. FIVE tags boys. Its interesting that where I killed that big male wolf, I am still killing bulls every year. Weird. Carry on. mtmuley
That sounds like a fine offer. Will it still be good next year? I can't get any vacation days for the next six months or so. I was raised in MT but have not been back in ages. I'm interested in seeing how a 352 grain bullet with a 3150 FPS MV does on a wolf

I'm posting this because after reading a previous post I'm wondering in the heat of the moment and depending on how long or short you may..... or may not have (a few seconds or more, and/or in a few nanoseconds) could you tell what you see here in a few seconds?

Be honest too, what's on the ground? Anything in the photo that seems odd?

Most of the time you might only get a quick second or two....... maybe a little more depending on the Timber or whatever small openings there are at the time until your quarry runs off.

So what is it?
