28 Nosler + Berger 195 = Great Elk Medicine By Len Backus

Sorry I am traveling for two weeks and I do not know the answer off the top of my head

Forgive me Len, I know you know more than I. But hunting with a 28 Nosler and 195 Bergers is like hunting Elk at 100 yards with a 7mm/08. I would not pick a 7mm/08 as my first choice as an elk cartridge. If your shooting elk at over 600+ yards I would pick a 338 of some variety.

Nat: Whats wrong with 2250 lbs of energy at 1000 yds? That's what my nosler has sending a 195 at 3100 fps. The minimum most people recommend on elk is 1500 lbs of energy. The nosler carries that to a little over 1500 yds at the altitude we were elk hunting at, 10,000 ft, with a 1875 fps impact velocity. Im just wondering what your reservations are on using a 195 berger on elk. Im not saying I would shoot at an elk at 1500 yds though.

My thoughts exactly....

I am not hunting with them but I did test them last year. Got my accuracy node at about 3200 fps.
