Picatinny because it typically allows more adjustment fore and aft.
If quality parts are used, Picatinny can have really good Return-to-Zero and Quick Detach qualities as well.
...I still prefer direct mounts on a couple rifles (NEAR Alphahunter and DNZ gamereaper for instance) though.

Ability to move one scope to another rifle if I think there may be an issue with either of the two. Much greater range fore and aft, greater variety price range on rings, personally, I would never go back to the dovetail system, too much chance for not getting them lined up properly
I prefer the Picatinny rail system for its flexibility/adjustability.
