Zero hold overs

I like 0.2 mil. There are other mil values that I like also. You should probably try 3.25 moa though cuz that's the absolute best.

It's all going to depend on your rifle, cartridge-bullet-MV, and your most likely shooting distance, animal, and what your most likely shot distance. Also, whether you consider holding high or low on hair as holdover.

For example, if you expect 200 yards as your shortest shot and the animal is an elk and I am only willing to hold tip of vital or bottom of vitals; then I would zero so I am 4 inches high at 200 and calculate/dope to where I am 4 inches low.

All those details are muddying the waters for OP's simple question. 9.65 moa is best, like I said. Nothing else matters.

That's pretty darn close to our system.

We use this for big game……obviously, this wouldn't work very well on Prairie Dogs. With the trajectories of our ( mine and wife's) cartridges …..we do a 300 yard zero.


We reach maximum bullet path height above line of sight @ approx. 170 yards and are about 9 3/4" below line of sight @ 400.


This works great on big game, if you maintain some degree of composure during the shot….holding just a bit low of intended impact point on shots in the 150 to 200 yards range…..and can "hold on hair" out to 400 yards.


Many years ago I learned "the hard way" to never hold off of the animal. Prior to the advent of range finders, I would severely "overestimate" the range to the animal on late evening (twilight) shots. I shot over several animals that I wish that I could have a "do over" on!

Beyond 400 yards…. It's time to get serious with range determination and drop charts! memtb

Sorry for coming on this forum not knowing anything about it and filling it up with threads. The seller told me I needed a minimum amount of post for him to message me and I thought he meant threads not comments. So please forgive me for trying to do what I was told so I could go through what a transaction.
