I am looking at this scope for my next LRH gun, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this one? I have a 3.5-10/44 and its great, just doesn't have the turrets. I love the optical quality (better than my Leupold - just my opinion) and it has a good FOV.

I am wondering about FOV, adjustiblity, sturdiness on the big boomers, I am looking at the 300 RUM or 338 Kahn, RUM, something along those lines, so sturdiness is important.

The 3.5-10 is on a 25-06. This gun just took a beating on rough trail riding, hiking, banged around, etc. Enough to put two new dents in my wood stock, with no shifting POI. So I know these are built well (at least the one I've got).

At $700-$740 with target turrets and mil-dot reticle it looks better to me than the NF 5.5-22, which is really my only other thought for scopes. Roughly half the price too, which is important.

Someone with experience with Ziess and NF would be really appreciated. I am interested in FOV and clarity, the 1" tube of the Zeiss to the 30mm NF comparison would be nice.

I know that I can look both of these up and see the specs, but would appreciate the subjective opinion more, as there actual use is more important than the specs sometime.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Ziess 4.5-14/50 Conquest with Target Turrets

Why do you think you need the 50mm objective? For what I assume to be daylight long range hunting(?) I can't see why you are interested in a heavier, and more expensive, and a scope requiring a higher set of rings? W/ target turrets?

I own a 4.5X14X44ss Conquest. It is plenty bright for darn near any application. I'm not against large objectives for twilight hunting, I own several, myself.

Of course, if that's what you want, that's fine. I just do not see it spec'ed out for most long range applications. Now, if you have a genuine need for low light glass, go ahead and get the real deal in a top of the line 30mm Euro.

Good hunting. LB

Actually, the reason I picked the 50 was because the Zeiss (sorry, spelled this wrong in my original post) 44 doesn't have target turrets from what I have seen. I want to be able to click up as necessary. Also, the mil-dot reticle is available in the 50 as well, that is one thing I want to try as well. All of my other scopes have a standard duplex or 'z-plex'.

I would not mind the low light performance either. I have a 6.5-20/40 VXIII, and it is (also because of its power) much darker than my 3.5-10/44 Zeiss.

Most of my hunting opportunitys come from friends and or contractors I do business with that have leases. Unfortunately, sometimes this means I am hunting some heavily pressured areas that usually means any shot from a blind is at just barely legal shooting time / 30 minutes before sunrise / sunset here in Texas. My Zeiss has worked fine for this so far, but I want something that I can range farther out with as well as click adjust for those 700-1000 yard shots if I want to take those in the future.

EZ Shooter,
I have a 4.5-14X50 zeiss conquest and I love it. The 4.5-14X50 doesn't have the side focus or the big tacticle adjustment knobs.Trust me when I say that these things are slick. Bill Bailey sent me mine for a hell of a price. Get with him about his comparisons. He knows scopes inside and out.

The Zeiss conquest 4.5-14x50 does come with a side focus and with target knobs, actually more like tactical knobs with out covers. Zeiss does make a 4.5-14x44 with the same knobs as the 50mm and side focus with a Mil Dot, it is product code #5214559943. They also make a target verison in the 3.5-10x44. I would look around more on the price, because we actually sell the 4.5-14x50 for $569.00.

I can't give you any info on the NF but can say that the Zeiss is a remarkably clear and bright scope. You may be right on it being brighter than a Leupy. I have shot several of these scopes and loved the optics. I just had to go back to Leupy b/c the 1" tube didn't offer enough elevation for what I am doing now. Email me if you have any ?s. Bill/Jon,

Thanks for the replys, the pricing helps to as I was going to buy something within the next month and would have over paid....

Bill - email sent. Thanks for volunteering to help out.

The Leupy is still an option if the other features i.e. 30mm tube, MOA adjustment range, outweigh the brightness... I am pretty happy with the LEupold as well, just a little happier so far with the Zeiss. I did the smart thing after writing this question and search for Zeiss forum threads and saw a lot of good info as well. One thread has a link to Leupolds Custom shop, and Premier as well. I may go down the road of getting the turrets put on this 6.5-20/40 scope with a mil-dot reticle. Cheaper than buying another scope now. Anyone that has done this through Premier or Leupold recently please provide comments too! I wish that there was a way to do this with the Zeiss??? Anyone know about this?

Thanks!

Dan,

We do ship to Canada when the necessary paperwork has been completed. If you need more information, let me know.

EZ,

I just got my 6.5-20x40 VX-III back from Leupolds custom shop this Wednesday, they installed turrets for me. I shipped it out on a Monday two and a half weeks before, so it took 13 business days if you count the shipping both ways. It was all relatively straight forward, and I am very happy with the service. I really like the turrets too, they are significantly nicer than the turrets on my Nikon Buckmaster, and way, way better than trying to make regular adjustments with Leupolds standard "field" knobs.

Also, Primier no longer works on any Leupold scopes. Check Premiers Homepage , and Leupolds Statement .

Good luck with your decision, if there are any specific custom shop questions you have feel free to drop me a line.
