Just curious on what guys are liking for a hunting round out of their .338 LM. I've been shooting the 280 Barnes. I've had good luck with them, nothing spectacular, but I'm almost out and pretty sure there is something better. Was looking at the 300 Bergers but after an "incident" with a Berger from my 6.5x284 I'm a bit hesitant. Not wanting to start a hate post, just curious what everyone likes.

I shot the 300 otm, taken about dozen game with this, elk, deer, bear, moose. But in lighter offering Id probably try something else. The 300 alot of bullet.

I just got done fireforming all my bras for mine and my brothers lapua improved. I will be shooting the hammers the sledge hammers and the hammer hunters. My brother is shooting the cutting edge lazer. Both monos and both are far better than the Barnes. IMHO
I've shoot a boat load of critters with cutting edge and they always worked great. Hammers are new but between the ease of load work and the performance I have had on game they are my new go to.

I may go a similar route as you, maybe not as light on the bullets thinking the 236gr sledge hammers. Be a hard hitter for **** sure

Ya I'm really trying to decide which one I want. I have better long range rigs so I don't need 300gr out of that so my next thought was make it a hammer out to 500. Flat and fast and hit like a truck. May talk to steve about a dead blow. Deeper hole if I have over 200 gr of bullet the pieces it sheds into will still be big.

Same and that what I'm thinking just make it the hardest hitting to 500 yards as I can since I really never get to air it out.

Love the Barnes 280 LRX in my LRH. The Hornady ELD-X seems to shoot very well in mine as well but haven't tried it on game yet. The LRX has given me 4 one shot kills out to 424 yards and consistent on steel out to1500 yards.

I like this load a lot. Can't kill 'em too dead, and being a disabled 69 year old Phat Phart I don't like having to chase 'em or long tracking jobs. And with the 419 muzzle brake it really is fun to shoot. YMMV, of course, but works well for me.

It has been nearly 4 years; what bullet(s) did you end up trying?

265 gr Nosler ABLR, Lapua brass, 93.0 gr H1000, Fed 215 primers
MV 2870 ft/sec
Accurate

probably could have pushed it more, but sold the rifle
didn't get the chance to use this for hunting
