The STEINER Merlin 10x42 Binoculars (458) are recommended mostly for distance glassing. They are also made for getting incredible close-up views at nesting and feeders, while maintaining distance so not to spook birds.
Since birds are worried by the presence of bright or light colors, Steiner tried the almost transparent neutral color on the Merlin, earth tone brown. Decided upon by birders and Steiner's development staff as a color least noticeable to birds.
