This afternoon I walked 5.7 miles and Maverick did what he does:

Love those German Wirehaired Pointers! Hard hunters and tons of fun when not hunting. He's a young dog, just a year and a half. I wish I could run like I did 30 years ago... All I can do is walk, and try to keep him in sight when I let him run. He comes back and checks on the old man now and then. :)

We're both getting stronger with all this walking. Well, I walk. He does his thing.

Regards, Guy

When my female Lab passed away, I stopped Duck Hunting. All of you make me want to go find a puppy and start hunting again.

Our prior GWP passed last spring, too young. He was only ten.

We had just about gotten used to not having a dog, for the first time in over 20 years, when young Maverick came into our lives. He needed us, and we needed him. He's a rescue dog, and I do think he rescued me.

My 45# female lab Belle is a wonderful upland dog. She just turned 6 yrs. old in March. Haven't used her for waterfowl hunting as I gave it up after 50 yrs. old hunting ducks, geese and brant. But, she has a great nose for upland birds. Love my little girl. MTG

Training here got put on hold about 3 weeks ago. Little guy ran right into a t-bar fencepost and broke his 3rd toe on left front. Try keeping a 6 month old draht on a leash or in a small kennel every hour of every day lol. We're all gonna be happy after x-rays in 2 weeks I hope. Then back in the saddle and getting some work done.

Okay, without hacking the thread, just joining in on the fun, I'll play....

here's our versatile dog, meet Atlas. He's a 3.5 year old Pudelpointer. We will be getting him a little brother in 7 weeks (litter born this last Saturday).
Amazing watching these dogs work. We hunt behind 4 of them, soon to be 5.

Not necessarily working the dog, but he had a run in with a porcupine anyways. He's a 6 year old Pudelpointer NA prize 2. Our other Pudelpointer (his dad) and our GSP are both Prize 3 UT and Prize 1 NA dogs. Need to get back into NAVHDA training days to get these guys back up to their full potential again.

(And need to work on some porcupines)

Love the look of everyone's Pudelpointers. My guys have a strong PP inheritance in their Drahthaar lines. You can see it more in the little guy. Nothing like porcupines to make for an interesting day. My older one hates em.

You all doing snake training this summer or feel like you are good?

Drathaars are cool!!
We did snake training last year, my dog picked up on it so quick the guy told us not to finish the course (we made it just over half way through). By the time we got to the 3rd bull snake I was literally dragging my dog up to the snake. Typically they like to shock the dog as soon as they recognize that the dog has seen or reacted to scent (in a negative way, ie: acting "interested"). My dog REFUSED to get anywhere near a snake. They have you circle down wind and then work into the snake. Atlas figured out immediately that every tree that had a man standing by it, had a snake, and therefore an associated shock.... he dug his heals in and refused to go where he knew there was danger. The guy told me he'd never seen a more snake-aware dog in the 4 years he'd been volunteering (there were hundreds of dogs on course that day). He's never since been non-compliant for me, except when there's a snake.
He and I feel the same way about anything that slithers!!
