Seeking advice only from those that have rebarreled their Model 70 in the past. I have been told from multiple sources, including some very reputable smiths, that "blueprinting" a Win Model 70 action is usually not required b/c they are usually manufactured right with tight tolerances. I realize its a case by case thing, and you won't know until you send it to a good smith, but was wondering if you did or didn't need to have it blueprinted, and for those that haven't, what time of group's are you acheiving. Thanks!

IMO, any time you rebarrel a factory action for the first time, you always have it professionally blueprinted. That way it's one-and-done. You never have to do it again for that action.

The reason you true is not to decrease group size, the reason you true is to square and center all the mating-surfaces and parts of the action and bolt to the invisible datum line. You also do the same to the barrel threads, lug shoulder, tennon, and chamber, and center them up with the bore. That way when you screw the barrel into the action, everything is perfectly centered, squared, and lined up and pressure is being equally distributed against all moving and mating surfaces...Which all adds up to better accuracy.

Here is a good article about truing the action. It is using the hand tools method instead of a lathe. The method is not important the results and observations are
