Tom,
I'll take a guess your thinking about a heavy barrel for the Savage .270.
If so, you will probably be money ahead to buy another rifle. Something like a Savage 10FP, .308. Or a Rem 700 VLS .308. or Ruger 77VT .308. Or a Winchester Stealth M70 .308(my fav.).
By the time you get a new barrel installed, and replace your stock, or have it opened up for the bigger barrel, you will probably have spent more than the price of another rifle.
And the .270, as is, will always be a great lightweight meat gun.
If you only want one rifle, you would still be money ahead to sell the .270, and put that money toward a different rifle, as apposed to rebarreling.
