When I was young and running a trapline, an old trapper told me what to do if I got a skunk in a trap. He told that they can't spray when in a trap. Just step on head, grab it by the tail and snap it's neck. I wonder if he made this one up too.

If you can hold their tail down they won't spray. They have to have their tail straight up to aim and spray. If trapping with a flat trap GOOD LUCK, but if you use a box type trap and a Skunk goes into it - it won't spray, because it can't raise it's tail.

Rattlers are different. You need to get them into the "COBRA" Pose, which is a coil and their Head in the air. Then you need to "Charm" them with a Taylor Swift Song and then Kiss the Rattler on the head.

Rattlesnakes can only strike about two thirds of their length. So a 6 footer can only strike about 4 feet. So you can get close and put a bullet in their head.
