What to do??

I have an older rem700 in 30-06 and want to get some opinions on what to do with it (sell it? or keep it?). It has a internal mag and i believe it is pre-jlock.It has the two screws on the left rear of the action. Should I send it off to become a 6.5-284 or dump it to a friend and get a more modern action? TIA

It's a great action to build on so I'd keep it. It's a natural choice for either the 6.5x284 or 6.5x06, .260, or any number of great medium calibers.

I wouldn't do a 6.5-284 on anything BUT a long action. Rock on!

Well I talked with a local smith today, and I think its a go with the 6.5-284 on 700 long action. He also spoke very highly of the 260rem and said I could build this on a short action and still shoot 140class bullets as a repeater.

I'd shoot it, and if it's accurate at all I'd leave it alone. But that's just me.

Since that's not the "in" thing to do on this site and the 30-06 is definitely not an "in" caliber here I suspect that won't happen.
