That's an interesting idea in the second paragraph. Could be on to something there, but I'm sure it could also create more inadvertent drama, as I'm sure no one wants to be the one that gets excluded lol.

if could be difficult but i think the more respectful and professional members can distinguish the difference between a difference of opinion and the drama queens that get off on the drama.
if the drama queens want to start their own tread the more powder to them, but we know who they are and just don't participate in their treads.

I don't like deleting or closing treads because there is usually some good nuggets of info if you can stomach the BS trying to sift through it.

it might be helpful if the OP and OP only could block offending members from participating in their tread all together and not just their personal ignore list that will save the rest of us from having to deal with offending members.

I too do not like threads getting deleted or locked. Most often, the cause are those unwanted posts, and they are often intentional.

My ignore list is long.

my ignore list is zero, while it might make me feel better it don't solve the problem. if certain members start treads I just won't participate or if they respond to others I try to just look right past them, not always successful but try.
do you ever wonder how much info we don't ever see simply because people just don't want the drama on their treads? when was the last time we seen any new wildcat development on here? we have seen what happens when some just try to improve on existing older cartridges, 80+pages and maybe 5-10 pages of useful info and the rest just drama or useless comments because they don't read or understand what has already been covered in the tread.
i know of quite a few members that don't post any longer or just deleted their membership all together. i wont post any of my personal testing or wildcats, i will try to help members and point them in the right direction but that is my limit. it is just too much work and money to have people crapping on it just for fun and i am sure there are others that feel the same way.

Sometimes I wonder if the members here and elsewhere respond to their friends, family and children. They should, because one day their children will be members of this forum and I would like to believe we would treat them as our own, because so many of them we have watched grow, become proficient marksmans and participate in hunts they will surely remember for the rest of their lives.

I rarely intentionally add anyone to the ignore list, I can moderate myself well enough to get by. Besides, if the thread is something I am interested in, I generally follow along and if an ignored member responds and steers the conversation into a different Tanger, it helps me follow along.

I agree hot topics bring out all sides with their own personal belief system, right or wrong, that is their right. We have become a product of our environment, we are an instant gratification society, we want what we want and we want it right now. We also like to believe we are the smartest person in the room, there is no one here that doesn't have the need to be educated, when you believe you have learned all there is to learn, why continue to participate? You can find any "evidence" to support your theory/ideology with a quick Google search.

I am a very smart ignorant person, I am very proficient at my job, I can do things others can not, not because I know it all, but because I am willing and eager to learn(the reason some of my threads seem innocuous to many).

My grandfather had a lot of people he considered unfriendly and didn't interact with them, but if they fell on misery or hard times, he would help them in anyway he could. Sometimes misery trumps hatred, we have forgotten how to be empathetic to our fellow man, whether it's his opinion, his lifestyle, his actions or simply who he was born, we need to remember, he's looking at us with the same skeptical eye.

One reason I changed my user name everywhere was because I don't want to hide behind a screen name, there are plenty of forums that I was a healthy contributor to, but because some socks decided to try to steer everything, criticize or mock the other members, I rarely visit. Last count was 16 forums that I haven't visited in years, I won't be missed and I don't miss them.

I don't know if censorship, and at what level is the answer. I have mixed feelings about this. My ignore list has three users that were totally "uncool" and a dozen "threads" I did not like the sidetracks. I learned the hard way, if it is about bullets, stay away. Stay away from certain user's post as well, but I don't add them to the ignore list because sometimes they might say something usefull.

Been thinking more about this. Back in the days before internet, we had BBS. Bulletin Board System, you dialed straight into a "chat room". You behaved or got kicked off.
Then came the early days of internet and internet chat rooms. IIRC is one that comes to mind, Internet Relay Chat. You had to know telnet commands... Yes I am old, have the gray hair ot prove it. Here you had an option of creating a chat room (like thread here). If you did, you were the OP and had the ability ti kick people off (warning, the could rejoin) or kick/ban they could not rejoin. You could also give OP privileges to members you knew. I did not eleminate drama, but it reduced it, kept bulling to a minimum and chats more friendly.
Then came forums...and I still dont have the right answer...I am still conflicted.

I believe it is now, but it only goes back as far as when that was implemented. I know a few have changed names a few times and it only shows their most recent change, while others changed it quite a while ago and it doesn't show it was changed or from what.

I guess if you made it to where it required admin approval, along with a reasoning given for the requested change, the admins could decide if it was justified and would likely limit most of the changes right there. And those that are approved would still give the ability to show you what the former name was.

I agree, as long as it is civil and relevant. I do mind the occasional side track but not the hijacking of a thread, just because it does not fit their narrative is inconsiderate to the OP. It is getting old and hinders those sharing information and wanting to learn. IMHO, the censorship responsibility falls to the individual/OP, not LRH.

I have no problem with unintentional or occasional side-tracking. By now, we should all know who is who in the forum. I cannot speak for others but I tend to associate myself with those that have the same set of beliefs and values I have.

I do my best not to judge others. Although I have not been a member of this forum for very long, I still believe it is managed better than most. I am guilty of side tracking threads at times. I am more conscious of this now and hopefully will be mindful of this going forward. Opinions make up a great deal of the dialogue in most of the threads. This is fine and welcomed as long as we respect each other and avoid attacking someone for expressing their perspectives. My ignore list is very short for now. I do like many of the options presented in this thread.
