What oil is best for inside of barrels after a cleaning?

5-30, 0-20, etc. etc. motor oil. Not a joke at all. Why waste stupid money when motor oil is designed to withstand 100 times the wear and heat of clp, rem oil, etc. etc. etc.. Bonus is it is 1/1000 of the cost and available all over the world.

Give you barrel a good cleaning and spray G-96 in the barrel. Then run a patch though it leaving a thin coating. All our firearm are coated with G-96 and then in the safe. Never had any issues with rust. If you read up on G-96 it leaves a coating on metal.
Smells good also! I use it on blet moulds. Have stored them for years without any rust issues.

Back when I was in bootcamp in what was a then a poor country, I was issued a Bren and my fellow conscripts Lee Enfields, both prewar. Boot camp was next to a dry salt lake bed. So fighitng corrosion with these old rifles was a constant battle. What I found worked great, one the final patch I would pull through I would put a little vaseline, so it left a micro coating. That worked great. I used it through the rest of my service, as I never cleaned my rifle unless I had fired it.

"Vaseline" has a thousand uses. Especially on a "Gun". If you are a Marine you have a both a Rifle and a Gun! Marines will get the joke.

Surprised no one has mentioned Birchwood Casey Barricade. It used to be called Sheath. That's what I use.

I will try the Hornady One Shot cleaner. I have a big can for cleaning dies and I like it on a patch to clean chamber.

So Is this about storing the rifle back in the safe, for several months before shooting it again???? Should we assume that you will clean the G96 or other oil, out for the bore before firing the rifle again. ?? After the late Deer season in January ,I clean and put two of my most used rifles away . They will not be fired at the range until May. So this is a good thing to do for Bore protection for those 5 months ???

I clean with Wipe-Out Patch-Out for cleaning and do not put oil in the bore unless it is for greater than 2 month storage. I have used Montana Bore Conditioner for over 1 year in storage with no rust. But for those firearms that I will probably never shoot/collector/antiques I use RIG grease.
