This was supposed to be a 1951 Winchester model 70 in 30-06. I knew something was off by the stock as it looks like a Weatherby or Parker and Hale stock. But I bought it anyways.
Upon receiving the rifle, the bolt doesn't not appear to be original. No hand scribed serial number anywhere. The only markings I see is a "Y" near the elbow of the bolt. Did this come off a newer model 70? Or aftermarket?
Lastly, the bluing on the receiver appears to be original. It has that matte faded look. And serial number of 202558 is correct for a 1950-1951 model gun. But the barrel has a slightly glossing finish. And the bulge under the front sight seems a bit odd? Is this a newer barrel off a newer model 70? I couldn't find a serial number on the barrel.
