They are everything a Rem 700 is only better. I think they are a good choice for a custom.

their great to build on very strong , good bolt setup with the M-16 style extractor and forged bolt handle and body
large flat bedding surface and big lug on the bottom
and the triggers an't bad either , but the Timiney makes for a better fell , to me at least.
AND they use the same scope bases as the Rem 700 , only I think that the rear may be like .005" lower ro something , I heard once that if you put a 20moa remm 700 base you realy on'y get 15moa due to the lower rear base platform

It's a good action I have a friend who has sevefral dozen custom rifles made on the action and they function and shoot great.
