I have a Weatherby Mark V Accumark chambered in 340 Wby. It has the blued action with the stainless fluted barrel. It does NOT have the factory muzzlebrake. It has the factory stock, which I believe is a Bell and Carlson Medalist with the aluminum bedding block. It is the standard dark blue/black with grey webbing. The trigger has been adjusted down and I estimate it at 3 pounds. I used it as my long range rifle. I put an EGW 20 MOA base on top of it and the rifle will now reach out about as far as anyone can reasonable expect. The rifle is in almost flawless condition. There is a little bit of bluing wear on the bolt handle and on the bottom of the trigger guard. There is a chip near the butt of the stock. It occurred when the rifle and I took a spill while up hunting. I never actually even noticed it until went over it just prior to posting this ad. I bedded the rifle myself. It turned out very well. It is not as pretty as something from Chad Dixon but it is every bit as functional. The stock to action fit is snug and when the action and stock are placed together, WITHOUT the action screws, there is still no slop or movement between the two. The rifle shoots factory 340 Weatherby Ammo into very tight 1/2" groups. I do not like purchasing ammunition so I have been reloading for it. I have tried two loads, 83 grains or RL 22 with 250 grain Sierra Gamekings, and 86 grains or RL 22 with 250 grain Sierra Gamekings. It shot the 83 grains of RL 22 better. The standard group just under 1" to just over 1/2". It will typically put three shot touching, then the fourth is just low. In total there are less than 100 rounds down the barrel of this rifle.

I have 60 pieces of brass that will be included with the sale. 20 pieces of brass have been fired three times. The other 40 pieces are brand new and in a new Weatherby box.

I have a RCBS two-die set of dies that will also be included in the sale.

Right now, I have a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44 with the Rapid Z-800 reticle. It is mounted in Burris Signature Zee rings. The glass on this scope is flawless. They are barely discernible ring marks. I tried to photograph them, but I'm not sure they showed up.

Price with scope is $1700 Price without scope is $1200.

Re: Weatherby Mark V 340 Wby Accumark w/Scope

What caused the stock to fail at the bottom of the recoil pad? It looks like it was fired with the stock against a brick wall and the stock couldn't take the compression. Wouldn't that type of damage be enough to send the stock to the factory for free replacement?

Re: Weatherby Mark V 340 Wby Accumark w/Scope

Like I said above, I just found it when I was going over the rifle clean it prior to selling it. I definitely have not fired it against anything like a brick wall or anything like that. While sighting it in, I shot it from a Caldwell Lead Sled with no weight in the bottom of it. I wouldn't think that would be the cause of the damage.

I hunted with the rifle for one season. During that time, I took one hard fall where I slipped and fell on my butt on a slippery rock. I attributed the crack to hitting the butt of the stock when I fell.

So, I can't say for sure when the crack happened. I haven't contacted Weatherby to replace the stock or anything because like I said, I just found it. I didn't think that they would warranty something like this. Do you think that they'd replace it?

I have shot the rifle without noticing any effect.

Re: Weatherby Mark V 340 Wby Accumark w/Scope

I would consider that a "stock failure" that shouldn't & wouldn't have happened absent extreme abuse OR a defect in manufacturing. I would definitely send the stock in for replacement if I owned it & hadn't done something REALLY stupid that damaged it.

I would not fire the gun again without replacing the stock. I wouldn't just worry about this failure, but where else it may fail because it obviously wasn't made correctly.

If I bought the gun now I would be discounting it by the price of a stock and the "hassle factor" of getting one ordered, in-hand, fitted, bedded, and installed.

Re: Weatherby Mark V 340 Wby Accumark w/Scope

I guess I will be contacting Bell and Carlson/Weatherby. I didn't think it was that big of an issue, but you're right. I haven't done anything with it that should leave that kind of damage. Thank you, Buano

Re: Weatherby Mark V 340 Wby Accumark w/Scope

Let me know what they say about the stock. I am interested in a .340 for elk hunting.

Re: Weatherby Mark V 340 Wby Accumark w/Scope

I haven't made any calls yet but I was curious, who do you think I would have the most luck with, Weatherby or Bell and Carlson? I imagine they will both point fingers at each other.

Re: Weatherby Mark V 340 Wby Accumark w/Scope

Weatherby. I've heard they stand behind what they sell.

Absolutely.

Call them and tell the first person who answers (usually a lady, I forget her name) that you have a rifle to send back for return. Once you do that you'll have their attention and you can see if they want just the stock or the whole rifle. They will give you an RMA number to write on the outside of the box and on the paperwork you place inside. Ship it back and you're good to go.

If you tell her you just want to talk to someone about your rifle you will get voice mail and it may take several days for them to call you back. Don't do that.

Re: Weatherby Mark V 340 Wby Accumark w/Scope

I've always heard good things about Weatherby's customer service. I expect they will send you a new stock, which means I'll have to pay a bit more to get a .340!

Buano, why don't you just buy my 7MM and be done!!

Probably because I've already got a .223, a couple .243s (1 heavy varmint & one cary-weight), a .25-06, .270 WSM, 7 MM mag, .300 Weatherby, and .375 H&H. (Most are stainless.) I'm not looking for duplicates unless they add something to what I already have.

Yeah, I was only joking. I know you've been looking for a big 33 for some time now.
