Wanted: PRIMER ADVICE

So I am wondering about shooting non magnum primers in magnum cartridges( 7mm wsm and 300 wsm).
I have BR2 and WLR but my cci magnum primers are in very short supply. So what kind of performance changes could I expect going to the non magnum options?

Give it a try it will work. I ran into the same problem but unfortunately wasn't able to achieve the accuracy I expected in my 300 prc.

They will work, I do it all the time, I seldom use Mag primers until I get into the RUM's

That's pretty interesting! I would have thought magnums would burn hotter and produce a bigger jump in velocity.

Br2 is pretty much the same as a cci lr , just better qc

I should have clarified my results a bit better.

Large rifle primers were Winchester and the magnums were Federals. I was shooting the 143gr Hammers.

I would guess and I haven't tested, but.....larger calibers with larger cases, heavier bullets, and slower burning powder would most likely need the magnum primers.

I'm thinking I need to try a ladder like you did and see how the wsm does.

What weight bullet were you shooting?That's 30-06 charge weights.I have used WLR primers in my 300WSM and compared the velocity between them and WLRM primers.The WLR was about 15fps lower.The only time I had an issue with a standard primer in a Magnum was with a CCI large rifle primer with 68.0grs of Reloader 22 in my 300 Win Mag.I was shooting a light load,fire lapping a rifle.I got a few hang fires and two that failed to fire.I pulled the bullets and the powder was black and sooty,but not one kernel had ignited. That brings up another question.Some powders are probably harder to ignight than others.The WLR Primer is supposed to be one of the hottest primers,so if you have them I'd use them in place of a Magnum primer.
