What is your most accurate seating depths using Berger VLD's? Please list you caliber, bullet weight, and where you seat the vld in relation to your lans. I go first!

7 WSM 180 VLD. Most accurate seating depths are .010 and .051 off the lans. .....025 aint bad either.

300 RUM Sendero, Loading to magazine length

210 Berger VLDs, not sure of exact number but I think .150 off lands. Jumping quite a bit but still getting good accuracy.

.338 Lapua 300 Hybrids .015" OL but was pretty good all the wat out to .060" OL

300 win 210 Berger VLD's one rifle .005" OL another .015" OL

7mm-300 win 180 Berger VLD's .115" OL

I tried between 0.010" and .140" with my 7 mm Ultra/Sendero using 168 gr. VLD's. Nothing gave me better than 1.5"-2.5" groups at 100 yds. I went through a box of Bergers and nothing seemed to work for me. I have given up Bergers for this rig.

I tried Barnes 160 gr. MRX with US 869 at 3300 fps and most groups, during load development, were less than .7". Accuracy inproved with charge weight. I seated to the to the OAL recommended in Barnes manual #4 (I would have to check my records for acctual OAL); I loaded two grains under Barnes reccommended max load, and expected to achieve about 3150-3180 fps. The MRX is pretty expensive and US 869 is proported to have poor temperature stability, so I will try a 162 gr. Hornaday SST next with an appropriate Hodgdon extreme powder. It has been a bit chilly lately when I have had time to go to the range lately, so the SST's will have to wait.

270 WSM 140 Bergers .015 of the lands and it is about a .003 window on either side then it opens up.
300 WBY mag length with 210's shoot good it is so far to the lands I've never been able to get a bullet to touch to find out so it's a heck of a long jump!!

7-300WSM 180gr Berger at 2950fps(hot) shoots about half minute jammed .005"

I tried backing them out but groups went wild as soon as they came off the lands.

Just curious, but how are you guys who are seating beyond .100 measuring your seating depth? I use a sinclair comparator and insert and measure off the ogive and it appears the ogive will disapear in the case if seating beyond .100 off the lans.

hornady tool. and it is close to the case mouth but not touching. ill measure it later but im thinking .100'' before it hits the case mouth
