Hey all.

1- Is there a true magazine fed short action 6.5 round that will push the 156s to an accuracy node around 3100fps?

2- top true short action 7mm performance?

3- How about in 30 cal?

4- 338? or is the 338 a waste of time in short action?

I confess I didn't search, but thank you for your time.

Sherman short magnums are a 1 stop shopping. Rich has created some amazing cartridges for a short action and for the long action is unbelievable. From 6.5 - 338 you wont find much better.

Rich, can you mag feed with the .338 270g ELD-X from a Rem 700 short action? Or like a Savage 10?
Ill have to check with a couple guys on that bullet? The std SA 700 box is too short for sure but most people run a DBM or Wyatts any way. I think the 235 ELDX would be a better choice for a case with short action cartridge case capacity. I know the 250 Berger will run under 3".
I think the Savage has a little longer magazine

Does not get any better than Sherman Short Magnums for real short action cartridges unless you want to take a big step down on power.

Just look at the performance Rich gets out of those cases.

I did some digging and the short answer is yes. That said, we have used a LOT of different FB's with this cartridge because of the vast differences in bullet range/styles!
That said, The 235 ELDX is running North of 2900' from a 24" barrel under 3" coal.
You really need to run the correct FB for the bullet for this round.

Thanks for all the input! The other night I was messing with JBM. There is a big gap between the .338 230g (.616) and the 270g (.757) ELDX. But it's not "terribly" that bad at distance.

10mph full value @ 3000' elevation:

I figured 2850fps with the 230:
  • 600yds- 19.1" drift with 74.5" drop and a TOF of .739 and 2207.8 ft/lb energy
  • 1000yds- 59.6" drift, 277" drop, 1.389 TOF, 1375.6 ft/lb energy

2700fps with the 270 (probably a little optimistic):
  • 600yds- 16.4" drift with 79.9" drop and .759 TOF, 2601.2 ft/lb
  • 1000yds- 49.9" drift, 286.1" drop, 1.393 TOF, 1775.2 ft/lb (love this energy number)
