Timing muzzle breaks?

I am considering installing a muzzle break on my 7mm and was wondering what exactly is timing a muzzle break? and is it needed for accuracy? I tried to do a search and couldnt find anything. Thank you all in advance.

Never heard of the idea. 'cept maybe if it's a BOSS.......

I think the conventional type brakes are just indexed and screwed on and shot.

If you buy a break with holes all the way around like the KDF or Vias
then it doesent have to be timed.

But if its a break like the Holland or one of the custom breaks that
have the ports on the sides and the top but not the bottom
they have to be timed so that they are in the correct position.

Timing is done by cutting the face of the sholder back untill the
break is in the correct position.
