thoughts on the 115 partition in the 257 Roberts

Just wanted some thoughts on this bullet. I was pondering to load the 100 gr Speer Hot core or the Nosler 115 gr Partition for deer. Is the Partition overkill for deer? or will the Speer be a better bullet. I have read that when using smaller caliber guns bullet speed means a lot when shooting much over 200 yds. and I can get the 100 gr Speer up to at least 3100 or maybe 3200 ( with a 24" barrel)and the Partition a little over 2800.

We use the 115 Partition in 25-06. It performs very well on deer and elk up to 400 yards.
These are Federal factory rounds.
My favorite bullet for the .257 caliber was Sierra 117 btsp(reloads). Up until joining this site and learning about better bullets.
If you are asking for a bullet to shed weight and be more destructive, go with the Speer. If you want the bullet to penetrate, best to go with the Partition. Provided your gun likes both bullets.

The 115 Partition is a real game killer in any 25 cal. It might not be the most accurate bullet and it is not the best long range bullet because of it's design. To get the best of both worlds I would suggest that you give the Nosler 110 Accubond a try. It flies like a ballistic tip and starts to expand like the ballistic tip but it holds together and keeps on penetrating like the Partition. You should be able to get it going 3000 fps or so in your 24" barrel and would make you a great flat shooting Bob load.

Lots of experience and great results with the 115G Partition in 25 cal. Over time I have migrated to the 110G Accubond. Slightly better accuracy and performs well on game as mentioned above. I can not comment on the 100G Speer Hot Core. No experience with that one.
