Thoughts on CVA bolt action in 35 Whelan for medium range elk rifle??

Have always wondered about the 35 Whelan for a medium range elk rifle. Seems it should be fine to 500 yards just throwing this out there for those that have actually used this cartridge. I love everything built off the old 06..

They did make a bolt but now I only see the break action. Might look at a different rifle.

I don't believe its a 500 yard cartridge. Looking at a few charts shows its dropping like a rock after 350. I'd opt for a 338-06 before the whelan, if you're stuck on the '06 case.
IMO there are better mid range cartridges for elk.

Agree with Wolf76, the 35 Whelen is a great round but at 500yds I'd rather be shooting a 280AI, 338/06 or the standard'06.
