Thompson Center Icon Precision Hunter

Back in June of this year I ordered a Thompson Center Icon Precision Hunter in .308win. At the time I was not aware that production was halted in Jan. of this year due to Smith & Wesson closing the Thompson Center plant and moving everything to their home headquarters. That's right,Smith & Wesson bought Thompson Center back in 2006. Production and distribution of said rifle is supposed to resume in Dec. of this year but I've been informed through a very informative customer service rep. that distribution should start by mid to late Sept. 2011. They want the rifle out by hunting season. When I do finally get what is certified to deliver sub moa groupings I plan on mounting a Vortex 30mm 4-16x50,model #VHS-4307-LR scope with a set of TPS steel rings. I'm well aware that there's a ton of scopes on the market that could probably outshine the scope I mentioned but I wouldn't be too sure about the rings. It comes down to the same reason that some of us drive Cadillacs and some of us drive Fords,the price. It ain't easy living off of disability. I guess the main reason that I would like to share my undertaking of what is likely to be my last rifle is to give very precise and accurate information in developing a rifle that I think has great long range potential. After the set up stage my plans are to report back all load development(brass,bullet,primer,powder,col,fps,temp,barometric pressure,altitude). I've been reloading since the early 70's so I know a trick or two. I'll even go so far as to list all my reloading tools that will be used,including a good set of dies for .308win that I still have to buy,I'm thinking Redding. It's going to take me some time to get everything set up the way I want it and start reporting back but it'll be worth it. From an old truck driver here in Concord,NC.
