I am wanting to spin up a carbon barrel for a short action impact in 7 saum. I am debating on going 22" because I will be shooting suppressed all the time with it. Im unsure as to what twist rate but I think I could do 8 or 9 or even the in between since I doubt I can shoot more than a 180. I have several pounds of RL26 that I think will get some good velocity out of whatever bullet I decide. It will be a lightish weight rifle sitting in an LRH CF stock with a NF NX8 4-32 optic and the Scythe suppressor. What kind of speeds will I get and what bullet does everyone recommend?

Tikka, carbon six 18 inch barrel. Barnes 145lrx, 60 gr of R23 @2976. I know I could get more speed but stopped there. Barrel is also not broken in. Same suppressor as you, love how light it is. I also have a defiance anti 7 saum with a 24" proof barrel shooting the same bullet, but I never use it anymore. Like the tikka better with the short barrel.

I built a 20-inch 7 SAUM on an Origin short action. It's always suppressed, so I wish I had gone with an 18-inch barrel. I like the SAUM—I took down a bull at 700 yards with it this year. But for a short action, I might consider the 6.8 Western or 6.5 PRC. They're similar, and I prefer less recoil.

I e got a 7 saum in a Remington model 7 22 inch shooting 168 Bergers right around 2950 or so and it's lightweight . I love it but should have gone with a Tikka action so I could seat the bullets out a bit further

I have a 24" 1:8.4" 7SS shooting a 184 Hyb @ 2818 w. H1000, 2886 w. N565, or 2916 w. RL26.

I just finished loading for a buddy's 20" 7SS and running a 175 Elite @ 2840fps.

7SS and 7SAUM are almost identical.

I think a 175-184 @ 2750-2850 would be easily attainable, and will be very impressive on game.

I own a Remington 700 with a 24 inch barrel in 7mmSAUM. I have owned this gun for about 20 years. I have carried it hunting for elk in Wy loaded with 160gr Barnes triple shock bullets that shot very well and gave 2900 ft/sec. I also used it to take a whitetail deer in Nebraska using 140 Nosler Accubonds. This load shot very well also and produced around 3000 ft/sec.

This is one of the most accurate factory rifles that I have owned. It seemed to shoot almost any bullet that I loaded. Since it shot so well I am now just shooting targets with it. It loves 168 Berger match bullets. Three shot groups under half inch are common. In fact it has shot 5 shots under half an inch. It is bedded in a Boyd Stock with a Trigger Tech trigger. My goal is to do some 600 yards with it but my wife's illness has prevented me from spending time at the range. I also have a 6.8 Western, a 270WSM and a 7mm Rem Mag. all are capable of good accuracy but the 7mm SAUM is the accuracy champ.

Greatest cartridge ever made for short action, right there with the 7 Sherman Short. But I am the 7mm man so I am biased. The custom 7 SAUM I have is stupid accurate especially with Nosler 175 ABLR and Retumbo, loaded to 2.95" or so to fit the Hawkins Hunter magazine. Now that I have found the unknown munitions bm and mag with 3.125" COL I might upgrade, but I do have a SAAMI spec chamber, it might not help.

I hadn't heard of the Unknown Munitions DBM, so I looked it up. Do you know if I can use the 3.125" mags with an Impact? It didn't really say. I was glad to see you had a Saami chamber, I was unsure on the freebore but it seemed most who used it in SA, used a saami spec freebore.

I have a 20" SA 7 Saum in a Magnus stock that I run suppressed. My main load is a 145 hammer hunter tipped running at 3050 over h4350. It is stupid accurate and is awesome out to my 500 yard self imposed limit for shots on game. Monos are great inside 500…..past that the 175/180 is the way to go. It has killed a pile of hogs and a big bull elk a couple years ago. Love the setup. I can load out to 2.950 and haven't had issues shooting everything up to the 180 eldms in the setup. My rifle hits low 2700's with the 180 class using h4831SC and H1000. I have never loaded over RL26 so assume you will squeeze out a few more FPS. I like it enough that I bought a second 26" M24 barrel 7 SAUM to play with at our local range on the weekends. Brass is now easily attainable. You will love it.

I have a 7 SAUM in a MG arms ultralight. It weighs about 5 1/2 pounds with a Swarovski Z5, and a 22" barrel that's twisted at 8.5. I am shooting 168 Nosler ABLR and 55.2 grains of 4831sc. They stay pretty consistent around 2730 fps. I have shot animals all over the world with it and it hasn't let me down.
