Whatever it is about my head/neck/shoulders body measurements...
I always have to scrunch down, pull my neck in like a turtle AND THEN STILL lay my head over about 45° to get my eye into the scope's eye box.
UNLESS... I install an adjustable tailpiece on (my own) rifles.
Drop the recoil pad down an inch or inch and a half.
And then I
- stand erect
- shoulder the rifle
- snug the stock up against my cheek...
- Voila! I'm right there.
So, that's what I do.
A proper tailpiece isn't expensive.
A little gunsmithing cost, not too bad.
Well worth it to have a rifle that fits me.
Here's my problem though.
I have a rifle that (for whatever reason) I cannot cut on and modify the rear of the stock.
So... if I can't raise the whole rifle, I'm trying to see if I can raise the scope.
Changing to an Extra Tall ring, brings the scope up 0.37"
But that's not enough.
I'd like to raise it another 1/2" to 3/4".
Which means... some sort of a "tall" base? ? ?
Rail or two piece doesn't matter.
I've seen "Picatinny risers"... mainly for AR15s I think...
They're hollow, where you can mount an elevated red dot,
and then still look under it and see the irons.
I think is the idea.
But they all look like cheap crap to me.
Any good, solid, steel, base that sits 1/2" to 3/4" higher than an ordinary Remington 700 base?
I am yet to discover one.
MUCH obliged for any ideas.
