Suggestions on variable range?

Hey Guys,
I'm looking to put a new scope on my latest project, a 1903A4 Sniper rifle. What I would like to be able to accomplish is this: (1) Consistantly hit stationary targets at 600 yds off a bench, and (2) make clean kills on game at 150-250 yds. ( my normal average shot range) in normal hunting situations. What would you say is the best variable range for this?
Personally, I was thinking 4-12 but i'm not sure that's enough at 600.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

A 4 to 12 would be fine, my first choice would be a 4-16 or 3.5-15 but I would not feel under powered even with a 10x. How big of a target are you shooting at 600?

Target is 12" bull at 600 yds.
