I filled my mule deer tag using my new Savage Model 10 Predator Max-1 in 6.5 Creedmoor. The early hunt in the area we drew was a mess. We saw plenty of does, fawns and yearling bucks.....no quality bucks(4X4 or larger).
I did manage to kill a small 3X2 buck. The Hornady 120 grain A-Max bullet took out both lungs. One shot....one kill.
We saw more elk than deer in the area we hunted! I suspect the fish and game dept. is grooming this particular area for elk rather than deer. The weather didn't cooperate either....it was hotter in northern Nevada than in Las Vegas.
The hunts are divided into early and late seasons. Early hunt=many tags but few deer. The late hunt=few tags but more and bigger deer.
One guy in our party did kill a nice 4X5 buck but that was the only quality buck we saw and we hunted the whole early season.
