Starting load

I just ran your data in QL and believe IMR 4955 is too slow burning for this bullet. My normal practice is to find a max pressure load in QL and reduce by 10% as a starting load. In this case, QL estimates 64,958 psi at 35.8 grains. That would put the starting load around 32 grains. The problem with 4955 in this situation is 32 grains nearly fills the case (98%). I would recommend something along the line of IMR 4064/4166/H380/Varget as each is projected to reach max pressure with a load density around 95% fill rate.

And thanks for the help I kinda new to the reloading and it's hard to find load data for a Ai so I been using starting loads for a 22-250 and had ok luck

First, you need to say "load data for my .22-250AI". Big difference from a .22-250. For an AI, if your brass is already formed, start near the parent case max and work up. If you are fire forming brass, take a middle of the road load and try that. The .22-250AI and .250AI are two of the biggest gains in case capacity once improved. IMR4955 is pretty slow burning, since it is a competing Enduron powder to try and match H4831SC.

Check this thread on SH for .22-250AI load data. Post #50 is a guy using IMR4955 with an 80 ELD. You could drop below this to start testing.

I ve shot 40 grs of imr4831 with an 80 gr Berger in my 22-250 AI. Very accurate and fast.

From what looking I ve done it appears imr4955 is slower burning so backing down for the extra bullet weight with a 88 gr bullet would make sense. I d say 10 percent off or so. Maybe start at 36 grs and work up carefully. If you have a chronograph that ll be very helpful.

A bunch of us are shooting 40 grs of R26 with the 88 Eldm in our 22-250 AI. Getting 3150 fps.

Proceed at your own caution but you ll really like that heavy bullet in that cartridge. One other thing to watch, we ve got 8 twist barrels and when it's hot out and if you load that bullet up to 3200 fps plus you may have bullet failure. We ve found if you approach/exceed 300,000 rpm in long barrels that bullet can disintegrate. You ll reach those rpm's much faster with your 7 twist

That changes things a bit. The Sierra manual (Ed VI) lists data for IMR 4955 and Sierra's 90 grain HPBT Match bullet. Copy attached.

Good find. You can use this data to get started… Your AI should be able to start with mid to upper 22-250 data as listed.

Good Luck

Need help got some imr 4955 and want to load up 88gr eld in my 22250 anyone got a idea of a starting load

Check out what Hodgdon says about it on their web site. I get great results with 37 /38 grains IMR 4831 and R-22 and the 88's in my 22-250 7 twist. The case volume may be a little low with 4955 in the 22-250, maybe give Hodgdon a call.
