I'm trying to piece together a set of gear for pack in style hunting. I'm from Ky so the only pack in hunting we do is packing your deer rifle from the truck to the deer stand, which is usually about 200yds. I have an eberlestock gunslinger2 but I'm going to need a bigger pack as well. I had looked at just getting a molle mil surplus but I think I will go eberlestock on this as well. My next big question is tents. I'm looking for something I can use in about any condition, so I assume I need a 4 season tent, I want it light enough to be able to pack but enough room for a couple people easily, so I assume I need a three person. What do I need to look at, are the $600-$700 tents necessary or can you get by with say a cabelas Alaskan guide series or something similar? What other gear do I need to look into? I'm taking my first elk hunting trip this fall with the LRH group hunt here, but I want to be able to go back in years to come by myself. I would love to be able to do a DIY mule deer hunt. I would also Like to hear your recommendations on a light weight back packing rifle and caliber. I keep seeing this 280AI popping up a lot and I think it might be worth looking into. Thanks guy.
