with 18 inch 6.5 Creedmoor. Just recieved it yesterday and will be testing the 140 Berger with RL26 and 215 primer. 2750 should be very doable and will make a great package.

Seems to be a lot of love for the 7mm-08 in this short configuration. Where else to learn that other than on the LRH forum?

Anyway, I'm currently getting my stuff together to get my suppressor stamp and I want a light rifle with a short barrel to go with it. Based on what I'm reading, is it reasonable to expect (as a general rule) that a handloader with decent skills can keep such a rifle sub-MOA at 300 yards?

I'm currently researching my next purchase (production) and have been thinking about a 6.5 PRC, but I've already got a 6.5-284 for "longer" range duty. I've also got .243s, .25-06, .308, etc., in various configurations. I'm thinking a 7mm-08 might fill a nice little niche as my first suppressed rifle. I'm currently thinking about a Sako Finnlight (threaded) with the set trigger. Would that be a reasonable choice? They seem to have this odd thread pitch of 14/1 and I'm wondering what the implications of that are?

I think you can pretty much count on the accuracy if my experience is any indication. Mine is a shade under 1/2 MOA at 100yds, and I'm still working on the final two aspects of the load. I don't have a long range to shoot at yet so I can't really say what its capable of. Been invited to a range this coming spring that offers 300yds, kind of interested what my guns will do at longer yardages.
Sako guns are known for accuracy and handloading takes one variable out of it. Good Luck I'm sure some other posters will have good opinions.

I appreciate the ideas. I was expecting the 7-08 to have so many votes. I guess it makes since when you drop to the 120's and along them. Probably make a pretty good point and shoot combo to about 250 yds. I was thinking topping this rifle with a fixed x6 magnification scope. The 6 creed has peeked my interest a bit. I have a 243 but the 6 creed looks to have heavier weight factory leadings. It's to bad to hear about the anemic 6.8 offerings. That would be an ideal short, light recoiling close to medium range option.

Yes I'm working on a load for 7-08 short barrel I shot less than a half moa yesterday
When I get it into a decent stock I expect better than that

Thanks, Savage12BVSS. I'm lucky to have access to a 300 yard range and I figure if I can keep things under a half minute at that distance, I can be reasonably comfortable at 400 deer hunting in calm conditions. I have an "older" FCP-SR in .308 with a threaded barrel. You know, the ones that came out in digital camo with the 10 round box mags before Savage caved to the PC police and ditched the Indian head logo? That thing litterelly shoots itself into .5 MOA all day long. I've currently got it in "dry-dock" in the safe with no optic but plan on getting a can for that too, as my son (13) is wanting to start bench shooting and handloading and I figure it will make for a great platform for him to get started with.

Cheers!
