Then I think I'll make it an Ackley Improved to make up for the loss of barrel lengthI'm thinking about cutting my current truck gun to 16". It's a Rem. 700 SPS, 243 Win.
I think you can pretty much count on the accuracy if my experience is any indication. Mine is a shade under 1/2 MOA at 100yds, and I'm still working on the final two aspects of the load. I don't have a long range to shoot at yet so I can't really say what its capable of. Been invited to a range this coming spring that offers 300yds, kind of interested what my guns will do at longer yardages.Based on what I'm reading, is it reasonable to expect (as a general rule) that a handloader with decent skills can keep such a rifle sub-MOA at 300 yards?

Thanks, Savage12BVSS. I'm lucky to have access to a 300 yard range and I figure if I can keep things under a half minute at that distance, I can be reasonably comfortable at 400 deer hunting in calm conditions. I have an "older" FCP-SR in .308 with a threaded barrel. You know, the ones that came out in digital camo with the 10 round box mags before Savage caved to the PC police and ditched the Indian head logo? That thing litterelly shoots itself into .5 MOA all day long. I've currently got it in "dry-dock" in the safe with no optic but plan on getting a can for that too, as my son (13) is wanting to start bench shooting and handloading and I figure it will make for a great platform for him to get started with.I think you can pretty much count on the accuracy if my experience is any indication. Sako guns are known for accuracy and handloading takes one variable out of it. Good Luck I'm sure some other posters will have good opinions.
