It looks like they side eject. I knew that the Winchesters pitched the empty's out the top,,, so the plan was to look at a side mount optic system...

Don, don't forget 94's come in Angle Eject (AE) also. Just read an article in Guns&Ammo (Nov19) by Craig Boddington on the Model 1894...good read.

The used Browning BAR's are some what pricey up here...they are pricey and not all that. Never been a semi-auto man myself. Have one at my house that I'm "tinkering" on for a wife's cousin. Brand new practically, .270WSM, Leupold 3.5-10X50...shoots 5-6" "patterns" at 100yds!

In my opinion, the 94's are nostalgic but the 336's are a tad more accurate....

Good luck in your search...if the arthritis in my hands/thumbs gets worse, I may have to ditch my heavy barrels and go lighter...hum..maybe a 460S&W....

I'll stop by our local shop today to see what's on the used gun rack...

I got lucky finding a used Left Hand Remmy BDL 700 this spring... Buy-ding my time will pay off for sure... Best bag for the buck...

I'm hoping to find a 18" to 20" ish inch model for bush wacking,,, even a 16" would work since its going to be my gun-powder bow and arrow... Ha...

Deffinatly the up close and personal hunting stuff...

Winchester 94's are great carrying rifles. They balance so well in the hand and with their short pull they come up and point so well. I have had a few but most were the post '64 junkers. I have one '94 left and it's a '08 saddle ring with the gum wood stock and all the original sights. It still puts five shots inside 3 inches at 50 yards and with my old eyes and those rough sights I consider that acceptable. On the other hand my regular bush guns use Lyman or Williams peeps and fibre optic front sights. I used to have just the red fibre optic but they were always a bit blurry for me and then I was told to try the green and it was much better. It seem that people like me, with astigmatism, have trouble focusing red dots. I grew up on the East Coast and 30-30 and 303 were about all anyone used for hunting the local whitetails. The Win '94 30-30 was considered the best of the two because it came up faster and whitetail hunting was usually jump shooting. The war surplus 303's were cheaper though. Good luck on your project. It's a bit retro but maybe we are too.

Buddy of mine shoots a marlin guide gun in 45/70 he had the barrel cut to 16 1/8" ported and added a big loop lever ( think John Wayne style in rooster cogburn) with an eotech it's an amazing closer range / brush gun amd the over sized loop let's you keep your gloves on in November

While I was in Cali, I used to use 300 yards as my longest shot for deer with my Winchester 94 chambered in 30-30. never used anything but the iron sights. I did put a tang sight on mine for 300 yards as the original back sight could not get up that far. the longest yardage for the original was 275-ish. then I found 150 grain Hornady SST & innerbond and used those as my first shot and last shot. made the original back sight actually shoot to 300 yards and the tang sight was good to 400.

Hi, I have a 1950 marlin 30/30 with a 24" barrel. It shoots 1/4" groups at 100 yards with 150 sierra spbt at 2850 fps.i use a 4x16x44 with a see threw mount, so I have iron sights too.

I like your thinking. I put a Turnbull fastfire mount on my 86 Winchester. Works great for my old eyes. They make them for 94's too.

I have an old 336, with DNZ medium scope mount, and Nikon BDC 3-9x40. I used Nikons website to enter the ballistics data. Then printed out the reticle with hand written drop data. It's "close enough". 9"x9" steel at 300 is easy with a good rest of course. I handload the Hornady FTX 160 grainers. One of my favorite rifles for sure. Super handy off a horse, or in the timber.
