Shooting rest/bag set-up

Before I get crucified for not using the "search function", I did and didn't see anything really recent so I am asking. Also, new gimmicks and gadgets come out daily and people's opinions change.

I have a Caldwell rest and rear bag that I bought as a combo deal. Undoubtedly, my swivel studs on the front of a couple of my rifles tore the stitching in my front rest bag and my filling leaked out. Without spending thousands of dollars, what is a good combination?

For hunting I carry these because they are extremely light (ounces), but for shooting from the bench I use shooting bags filled with sand

I apologize, I should have stated in my original post, this will be for the bench only. Not competition, just for personal use and trying to give my rifles and reloads the best chance they can get

if you like the rest you have you can replace the bag in many cases. it sounds like you may need a bag rider of some type to prevent tearing them.

A good bipod with a great squeeze bag, simple and effective. Go prone if you can, the most stable form of shooting.

I have an older caldwell front rest. You can replace the bag if that's all you want to do. I added a shade tree top to mine. I have a small protektor rear bag with heavy sand in it.

I would look for a SEB Mini they work great and don't break the bank.

I found adding a Shadetree Joystick for my front rest to be a huge improvement for me. No more pushing the whole setup around and shooting with pressure on the gun to get that last hair of perfection in aim. I put it on a pretty cheap rest. Butch is a great guy and was very helpful to me in getting my setup right. Then spending real money on high quality rear bags, not the same bag works with every gun so need a few of them.

Use a bipod and rear squeeze bag not expensive and reusable

No matter what you choose, just take the front and back swivel studs off. Those will mess with your accuracy and, as you know, they will damage your bags. I only put them on my rifles when they are needed.
