shock hammers for 30-06?

Can anyone share their experience experience hunting with the 152 or 166 shock hammer bullets? We're looking for a lead free woods hunting load in a 10 twist 30-06. I'm more interested in a quick knock down than long range performance in this setup.

I have shot the shock hammers in much smaller calibers then the 30.06. Proper shot placement will drop anything with that bullet and particularly that caliber.

OP, I've summoned a couple of guys with lots of experience using Hammers. Let's see if they appear.

My thought for you is to go lighter and faster. Penetration is not an issue for Hammers. You do not need to use a bullet with the same weight that you would for cup & core or traditional bonded.

You cannot run a Hammer too fast and will get better performance, the faster you go.

Edit to say, I would take a look at those Lever Shock Hammers in 30 bore.

How far is your farthest shot gonna be and what are you hunting

Just caught me in time I was on my way back to the burrow lol

As bean said range is a key here usually the sh is a 400 & in pill but also depends on caliber

That said the lever line is my pick with the reservation of the 120 as I've not tested it yet as soon as I get them a animal or 2 will be hammered
But that's the pill on paper that will shine
It's got a nice balance of petal to shank ratio
The other great for the o6 is the 130 ah although a little light in petal mass for the quarter shots but effective

Yes that's a nice pill also & I shouldn't have forgotten it in a 06 if think that's about as big as one needs unless you get to some really big critters

People thanks to harperc I had my eyes opened up to how much can be improved yes hammers raised the bar pretty high with this design

Looking forward to the new designs to come as the journey of hammer keeps improving
