Looking at having a semi custom Shaw rifle built for my sons 18 th birthday . Don't know what caliber to get him yet. Probably let him pick that . Does anyone have any experience with their guns or barrels . Figured I'd ask y'all instead of doing random searches on the inter web. Their website has a firearms " builder " type thing where you pick the chambering then the action, barrel and stock . And are not sky high on price. Just wondering.

No we have not his bday is still over a year away . Do you happen to have one or know someone who does?

I'm really debating now on going this route OR just buying him a tikka in 270 wsm . He really likes mine so much so as I might have to remove his hands from his arms to keep it lol

When it comes to "custom", aftermarket barrels, you pretty much get what ya' pay for. Shaw barrels aren't lapped. So, it is kinda' luck of the draw as to what the accuracy might be like. It may be better than 'factory', and it may not. Un-lapped barrels tend to be very good copper and carbon collectors, and can be quit finicky about what ammo they like. Discounted work usually means discounted results. But it all depends upon what you want and what you are willing to pay for............ For an accurate rifle, the barrel isn't the place to cut corners looking for a 'deal', IMO.

A few years ago I was looking at ER Shaw rifle. I called them to see if there was any kind of guarantee on how they would shoot. There was not. It was what it was. Well it kind of turned me off, so I didn't order one. A little later I was browsing Gun Broker and here was an ER Shaw almost exactly like I was considering ordering, brand new. Opening bid was about half price with no reserve. So I put in an opening bid and that was enough to purchase the rifle. It's a 300 wm. Shot 180 grain nosler AB in it, at about 3050 fps. Has a 26 inch barrel plus brake. And will admit it shot quite well. Would hold 1/2 to 3/4 moa out to 800 yards, that's as far as I ever tried it. Not saying that they will all do this, as they wouldn't guarantee them at all. But this one particular rifle was a decent shooting rifle. Good luck with your decision.

My son really likes a savage action . Is really the main reason I was looking at these I'm pretty certain that they should shoot fairly decent I would think . We've had really good luck with what we've got from savage so far . I thought maybe by asking on here some one had dealt with Shaw before maybe a rebarrel or something
