7mm WSM 162gr ELD-X How far away from rifling ? I recall A-Max bullets like being seated into the lands. Sierra 160 gr TMK I seat .020 away from lands. The Hornady bullets will be my deer bullet .

I just did a load for the 143 eldx. Started at 10 off. Then 20-40-60-80-120 in 3 shot groups same powder charge. 60 shot best. 1/2" at 100. Tried 55-60-65. All 1/2" or less. 65 was .3.

What powder shot best for you?

I used RL 26. Fed 210 primer. Mine was a 6.5 wsm. H1000 and H4831sc would be two other good ones.

I use the 212 eldx out of my 300 win mag and my rifle didn't seem to care about seating depth. Jammed or a little ways off they seemed to shoot the same.

If I may ask what velocity were you getting and what was your COAL?

In my 6.5 wsm.
RL 26 60 grains
Norma .270 wsm necked down
Fed 210
143- eldx seated .065 off
3060
10 shot es was 9

I could run it hotter but this is very accurate and the brass is hardly getting worked. I could neck size if wanted to. I shot a 2" group at 425 a few weeks ago. I am tempted to try and go hotter. But not sure if it's worth it.

@ OP I seat mine .013" off in my 7RM. I have read though, that the Berger seating test process works well to get you close.

I am working up some 178's for 30-06 and asked Hornady about their very deep seating depth. The reply I got said these bullets seem to prefer 10-30 thousandths off the lands. 3.220 is the book spec but I stopped at 3.250 because I was at about 0.180" of the lands at that point. Shoot all over. Got some test loads ready at 30-50 thousandths from lands. Hoping for better results.

These bullets can be a bit finicky with seating depth. I load them in 3 different calibers. Some like jump, others not so much. What I found that worked best was using the Berger Seating Depth protocol. Then you can work up the load from there with confidence
