Salvage a Savage action

There may be times to push the envelope, so to speak, and try to resurrect an action that has been subjected to extreme pressures. After careful consideration, I don't believe this is one of those times. Thanks to all who responded,
I agree. That is the smart thing to do. Cut in half so no one else can either. The bolt assembly is probably ok with the exception of the head. If you don't want to keep that for a spare, I have a use for it.

Pic #1424a, when blown up, appears to clearly show a heavy ridge where the abutment for the lower lug was substantially set back.
If you have a depth mike, you can easily measure the setback in that area.

Assuming I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing, the receiver is no longer safe for use.

Im not sure what the 20% increase in powder mass did to pressure, but SAAMI Proof Loads are typically 25%-30% higher in pressure then service ammo.

Do some math, maybe Quick Load to see if you can get an aproximation on the pressure of the shot in question then go from there. I would do that, the dimensional checks and a Magnaflux for cracks befor tossing it. If ultimately it does get tossed the exercise will be a great learning experience. Good luck, be safe.
