Rings for x-bolt wearing Luepold vx-6 with 44mm obj

I have an x-bolt in .308 that I am changing scopes on. It currently wears a Burris Fullfield II with a 1" tube. I am switching to a Leupold vx-6 3-18x44SF with of course a 30mm tube. The outside diameter of the objective is 2.1" or 53.34 mm, with scope covers it would be about 56mm ish.

As you all know ring choices are a bit limited for the x-bolt. I intend to use the Talley lightweights for the X-bolt, which has the built in base. The ring height on these are measured from receiver to bottom of where scope tube will rest.

If I have calculated correctly, I believe I can get by with the Talley lows which have heights as follows:

Low: Front .43" Rear .51"
Med: Front .53" Rear .61"
High: Front .63" Rear .71"

What has me confused is the height difference between front and rear. I hate to assume but anticipate the front height is the number to use. I would appreciate if someone could check my math as I would like to get the rings ordered and I have no local source to check them or return if I order incorrectly. According to the ring height chart on Midway Usa's sight I think the lows will work. Any help/input is appreciated.

The other thing to check is the distance between where the rings will clamp on the scope tube when the rings are attached to the rifle. The VX 6 has a shorter distance because of the design and not all rings will fit. You might want to ask Talley about this and they should be able to supply 'extended' rings.

Learned this the hard way and had to go with picatiny rail and rings.

Thanks for the info. I also hear the vx-6's can sometimes come in contact with the bolt when cycling. I really am having thoughts it will be a problem with the low rings. Probably gonna go with medium's. I do have some modeling clay at home, so I'll probably use the trick on Brownells website. They put modeling clay on front and back of receiver and push scope down into the clay then measure the front clay for how high you need them. I can check bolt clearance this way as well. Appreciate your reply Rick!

Mo, just send your question to Talley, they will reply in a day or so with the correct mount #. I've done this several times and their reply was spot on. RR was correct, I had a Leupold that would not fit the Talleys. Also some bolts will contact mounts when facing a certain direction. Good luck

Good info, thanks a bunch!
