I went to my first match this weekend (6-12-10) just to watch. Should have stayed at home now I really got the bug. I would like to try it. I need some equipment but don't want to break the bank.
I don't need the best but I don't want junk either. the things I need are shooting coat, sling &
spotting scope stand . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Do your self and your wallet a big favor when choosing glass. Get the absolute best you can afford the first time around. I realy like Swarovski, but theyre not cheap. I dont have a clue on the shooting jacket or tripod.
Good luckgun)
Theres some Swaro optics and tripod f/s by a guy named Mike_l in the L/R/H classifides in the ''Optics for sale'' section.

not that I want to highjack this thread but is it allowed to shoot a gun with a muzzle brake while shooting f class and does anyone know when and where to get into it in Utah

Thank's for the responce.
I have the glass , coat is on order.
What I need now is a spotting scope stand and a sling. I have a few tripods but kind of hard to use laying on the ground.
The match I went to was small bore prone.
I was / am intrested in F-class and precision.
Smallbore looks like a lot of fun. The club has some kind of match each month.
They have prone smallbore , Garand , Precision , And High power
Might as well shoot in them all. Any excuse to shoot.
They also had two members win the F-class in Cal.
Check out their web site.

Depends on the match. In 'modified' f-class held at Quantico, you can shoot any rifle (up to 50cal) in any configuration and that includes with a muzzle brake. The only real 'rule' is that your front rest must be a bipod or pack and only a rear bag.

Maybe someone from Utah will chime in on a place to shoot informal competition.

If I enjoy it yes. I can always use the first as backup.
But no one on the site seems to know anything about it or if they do their keeping it to their self. No matter I have already ordered everything but the scope stand.
