Has anyone tried loading Retumbo in a 338 RUM behind a 200 gr Ballistic Tip?

I use retumbo with my 300 SMK but not a 200 gr. I think you will find it to be too slow in vel. I would try H-1000 or H-4831. I have a .338 RUM but my barrel is 30" three grove Pacnor. I use for loads 180 AB 97 grs. of H-4831 SC
vel. 3600 fps. I use 225 AB 96 grs. H-1000 it give me 3200 fps.I use 300 gr SMK and 92 grs. of Retumbo that give me 2975 fps. I would start lower with three rounds each and work your way up from there. You will lose about 30 fps for every inch of barrel. I hope this helps. Tim

kfrye,

I am working up a load in my 338 RUM with the 250 gr PT using Retumbo. I'm getting an average velocity of 3024 fps from a 26" barrel. I'm almost there with accuracy, working with the COL.

With the 200 gr BT, AB, and 210 gr PT bullets, I have shot groups sub .5" at 100 yds using
RL 22. MV is around 3200 fps.
