Bugger! i thought it might be possible just to use the rem 700 SA as a donor and build it on that.
Thanks Shortgrass

You can use the Remington with a few mods.

1= The bolt face has to be opened up and an aftermarket extractor installed.

2= A center feed mag box and a flat top follower will solve the feeding issue.

3= The action rails may have to be opened up a little. (very easy).

4= Screw on a good stainless barrel and you are done.

This work is very inexpensive and if you already have the complete rifle use it.

Thanks JE,
I had hoped that was the case most gunsmiths iv talked to has suggests the same thing. Whats involved in opening up the action rails .

Careful hand work. If you use the center feed box mag capacity will be reduced to 2 rounds. It always sounds simple,,,, 'till you reach for your wallet. Sell the 22-250. Use the proceeds toward a .300. The money you would have spent on the conversion will be more than enough to cover the difference. You might even have enough for a trigger!

One thing you can get is the Wyatt magazine box for the Rem short action and those magazine get you more OAL for the WSM over a factory one.

You could also buy the Pacific bolt and have it fitted

You can sell your old bolt magazine/follower to help off set the cost just another option.

You should be able to buy a Rem factory magazine box/follower for the WSM so that shouldn't be a problem either.

Myself I would keep the action and make the change over using it and find a good gunsmith that work with you. My 30-338 mag was a 30-06 and a 22-250AI was a 223 and yes it may of cost me alittle more to use those actions but in the total cost of building those rifles it's was that much. If I rebarrel those rifle to the orginal caliber I would of add the Sako Extractor and bolt face square anyway.

Well good luck

Cheers Tom,

I think im gonna go ahead with the project being a left hander and living in Australia we are limited with options and also pay a little bit more for rifles. The feed problem is an issue though and im open to suggestions :)

Open the bolt face, re-barrel and drop in a score high benchrest follower; making it a single shot'..., if that's all you have to work with is the Rem 22.250 action its a quick and cheap doable 300 WSM
Just a thought

Corey, your gunsmith might be able to get factory magazine, follower, spring for the WSM or try this site Wyatt's Outdoor Custom Rifles. I'm not sure about shipping over to you. Good luck
