Remington 5R gen 2 - where do I find one?

So I've made the decision to pick up a 5R Gen 2 or regular 5R in 300 win. The problem is, I can't seem to find it in stock anywhere but gunbroker where it's about $200+ more than it's listed on grabagun or buds. I have emailed both to inquire as to when they thought they'd expect them back in stock but got " I don't knows" from both. The general theme is these are out of stock which leads me to my question... Now I was able to find the non threaded version on buds, but I want the threaded so I don't have to send it to a smith.

Obviously I know the chaos Remington is in but is this just a case of them being that behind in production or are these being chased out? Any insight would be appreciated. I just hate to pick one of these up at $1000 on gunbroker just to see grabagun come back in stock selling them at $800 or so.

Also, if anyone knows where I might find one in the same price range as say grab a gun, I'd appreciate the info.
 
Where are you located? I handled some at Green Top near Richmond Virginia when I was there for training a while back.

The reason you are getting "I don't know's" from Bud's and others, is because these are random production, compared to their standard production models like the ADL, SPS, CDL, Sendero, etc... They don't build them all the time. They build them till they run out of parts, then they don't produce anymore until they get more parts in. They used to build the 5R Milspecs only ONCE a year till they ran out of parts (before it became a production item), and when they were gone, they were gone until next year. Now they build till they run out, get more in, and keep building them.

I want threaded just because the one (and only) gunsmith within 2 hours of me charges 160 just to thread a muzzle. That doesn't include the actual brake. So if I'm going to pay it anyways, I'd rather get it up front and save my self the hassle of taking it to a smith.

None of the threaded factory .300WM 5R's are 26" barrels. They're all 24". You buy the 26" Gen 1 and have it threaded, you're ahead of the game. ;)
 
Does 2 inches of barrel make that much of a difference? I know longer barrels=more velocity but I dont know much beyond that. Any info is appreciated.

It can average anywhere from 25-50 FPS MV per inch. So, probably a 50-100 FPS MV increase. It's not so much about the MV, as it is a more complete burn. If you don't get a complete burn, you're barrel will get nasty quickly with unburnt powder chunks all in it that are stuck to the sides of the bore. Seen it quite a few times with large-capacity cartridges and shorter than ideal barrel lengths.
