Rem 700 classic trigger adjustment

I am working on a gun for my sisters soon to be husband. It is a remington model 700 classic chambered in 30.06. I have free floated and complete bedded the gun. I am in the process of lowering the trigger poundage and it will not lower down. It is right around 6 pounds. It is probably the worst trigger that I have ever worked on. I have set the sear engagement and the overtravel but when i try to lower the trigger poundage it wont go anywhere. Aside from buying a new trigger and installing it, what other options to I have? I have thought about polishing it up to improve the sear engagement but it wont help with the poundage. It is almost as if the spring is too stiff and will require a softer spring. Any one else have this problem, and if so how was it fixed?

Don't mess with the sear unless you have a lot of experience honing trigger sears.

There are after market springs available that are lighter in brownells.

But after all that work it would pay to install an after market trigger .

My first choice for the Remingtion 700 would be the Jewell and next the timney.

Thanks for the help. I know that he does not want to go to the expence of a new trigger though. I recommended that as well but he wants to get started with what he already has and then put some more money into it at a later point if he really gets into it. Ill check brownells though thanks.

**DISCLAIMER***.......i wouldnt do this for anyone else, but i have taken the spring out and clipped a couple rings off it to loosen it up.....i would do that a lot sooner than i would adjust the sear engagement....lots safer IMO. PM me with an email address and i will send you a great little "how to" on adjusting these triggers...AJ
