It does have 2 small rub marks on the underside of the barrel and it has the rear sight holes with plugs. The Varmint specials didn't have holes for a front sight, just the rear holes for extended scope mounts. Barrel code dates it to a 1991 model.

Measures as 1:9.75" so I'd say Remington classified it as a 1:10"
