Spent some time this afternoon with my 260 . First time I have put 140 gr bullets thru it. I used IMR 4831 as listed in my Nosler manual. Nosler list 44grs of IMR 4831 as a max load for their140gr Partition & 140 gr Custom competition bullets. So I stated low working up at .5 grs each shot. At 44grs , Noslers max load seem very compatible with the 140 AB. Also note I was using blems, factory seconds at a considerable savings. Started with three Rem brand 260 cases. Fired each case 5 times & primers pockets were still snug when I finished. Mt rifle is a Savage model 16 stainless, 22" Bbl, 1/8 twist. No special throating. Brass received no special treatment . Random use. Primers pockets cleaned every second shot.
fps.
Shooting on my own range, temp 77 dg F. There may be better powders but I have the IMR 4831 on Hand. Nosler shows 2820 fps with this load from a 24" Took three shota at my 420 yd target & had three satisfying hits. Was very surprised at the performance of this bullet/load combo. Forgot to mention, elevation 3250.
